sarka climbs kili for byhp
#distinctkili4byhp
Sarka, a huge supporter of BYHP, has arranged to climb Kilimanjaro to raise funds for the charity. Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa, and rises 5,895 metres above sea level. Sarka will start her journey on 28th January 2017, returning to safer climbs on 11th February 2017.
Although not part of our Face Your Fear campaign, Sarka recognises the danger and acknowledges how frightening the experience will be. |

She's Done It! Thank You So Much!!
Šárka is an exceptionally incredible lady, climbing this mountain in aid of our charity and all whilst suffering from terrible altitude sickness from day 3 of the climb.
Saturday 28th & Sunday 29th January 2017
Šárka set off for Tanzania, leaving from Heathrow airport and arriving at the Weru Weru Lodge on Sunday 29th. They are due to walk 9km on day one (Monday 30th January) which should take around 6 hours.
Monday 30th January 2017
Šárka arrived at Machame Camp at 16:40 after trekking through the rainforest. She encountered a heavy shower en route but is doing great. The rest of the evening was spent relaxing before she turned in for the night.
Tuesday 31st January 2017
Šárka arrived at Camp 2, Shira Camp, at approximately 1.30pm, gaining a good height of around 3680m in altitude. It's been very wet and has rained all day, which is very unseasonable for this time of year.
Wednesday 1st February 2017
Today Šárka is hiking from Shira Camp to Barranco Camp which is 10km over the next 7 hours.
Thursday 2nd February 2017
Šárka has arrived at Karanga Camp (Peanut Camp) after a great day. The Team conquered the mighty Barranco Wall, an interesting rocky scramble, in the morning. All are in good spirits and have acclimatised well, they have enjoyed a comfort food lunch of mashed potatoes, which is great with them being at 4000 metres, where the appetite can start to wane. Šárka currently has a fantastic view from the camp of the glaciated summit of Kilimanjaro ahead.
Friday 3rd February 2017
Šárka has arrived at the highest camp, the Barafu Camp, which is at 4600 metres - it was a tough climb to the camp due to the altitude. Šárka is now starting to prepare for the summit push tonight by resting well. They'll set off at 11pm to arrive on the summit for dawn. We wish Šárka and the team all the very best in their climb to the summit.
Saturday 4th February 2017
At 11.30pm local time, the Team set out in temperatures below freezing to conquer the summit. Temperatures are expected to drop to below -10. They'll slowly ascend and with sheer guts and determination they will reach the roof of Africa, Kilimanjaro, for sunrise.
Šárka summited Kilimanjaro at 7.50am this morning. The climb saw strong winds and temperatures of -21 with the windchill from 5000 meters upwards. She arrived back at Barafu Camp earlier in the morning to relax. She headed further back down the trail to the Millennium Camp this afternoon.
Sunday 5th February 2017
Šárka is now down and signed out of Kilimanjaro National Park. She headed to the Glacier Bar for a well earned lunch with the team as their appetites returned. After lunch, they'll head back to the Weru Weru Lodge for a welcomed shower and a chance to relax.
