Prevention
Prevention is a key part of Homelessness Strategies across Oxfordshire District Councils and BYHP has developed effective practices to implement and reflect this. Prevention has always been at the heart of BYHP’s work with homeless Young People.
All BYHP’s services contribute to preventing homelessness. Specific programmes outreached into schools, youth groups and other settings, are designed to raise awareness and provide advice and information to Young People. The Family Mediation Service works with Young People and their families, helping them to improve communication and where possible resolve issues, so that they can remain or return home.
Approximately 50% of all the Young People who visited BYHP in 2008/09 were assisted to stay or return to the family/parental home.
