BYHP Past Events

Mixed Doubles Tennis Tournament

Brad Keenes and Andrea RandallA Tennis Tournament in aid of BYHP (Supporting Young People) was held on 3rd September 2008 at Bloxham School.

The event was a tremendous success, providing a glorious day out for some very enthusiastic tennis players and their families.

Coffee, tea and cakes provided entirely by volunteers all made for a quintessentially English day and a chance to enjoy the last of the summer sunshine and rain.

The winners, Brad Keenes and Andrea Randall were presented with two beautiful decanters, kindly donated by Villeroy & Boch.   A silent auction, raffle and donations by some very generous supporters meant that approximately £2,000 was raised for BYHP.

BYHP is indebted to Simon Bradshaw for his enormous support and brilliant organisational skills in organising such an enjoyable and successful event, to all our sponsors and players and of course to Bloxham School for kindly allowing us to use their fantastic facilities.

BYHP has worked with over 400 Young People aged 16-25 in the last twelve months in Banbury and the surrounding area. Many of them have been made homeless through no fault of their own, fleeing abuse or violence, bereavement or eviction.

Fairport Convention Music Festival

BYHP would like to give tremendous thanks to their volunteer fundraisers Laura Yates and Carrie O’Regan for organising BYHP’s stall at this year's Cropredy Festival on 8th, 9th and 10th August 2008.

Special thanks goes to One Man Band for most generously donating a fiddle which was signed by Fairport Artists, including Dave Pegg, Midge Ure and Anthony John Clarke to name but a few. The raffle was a great success raising £1337.50!

This year BYHP also ran a spray tattooing fundraiser, and we would like to thank Millie Yates, Rebecca Calvert and Ryan Eakitts for their help with this.

BYHP has done a roaring trade throughout the festival both on the field and the Fringe in the village, these funds will help Young People in Banbury and across Oxfordshire who have been made homeless through no fault of their own.

This is the third year that BYHP has run a stall on the Fairport field, and it has been worthwhile in both raising much needed funds and also spreading the word about the important work which BYHP carries out.

Open Air Theatre

The Rivals - Wroxton AbbeyHistorical drama came to Wroxton Abbey in July 2008, when Mr. Hart’s Theatrical Company presented “The Rivals” by Sheridan.

The Company very generously donated £1 from each ticket sale and all the proceeds of the refreshments and raffle to BYHP.

Guests picnicked by the lake during the internal, and picnics to order were provided by Miss Georgina Harris who very kindly donated a percentage of the proceeds to BYHP.

Wroxton Abbey’s stunning Doric Temple and formal knot gardens of 17 Century Wroxton Abbey, the ancestral home of Frederick, Lord North, former Prime Minister, were a perfect backdrop for this delightful 1775 comedy of manners and characters.

BYHP would like to extend grateful thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Chris Hart for their generous support of BYHP and to Wroxton Abbey for allowing us to use its spectacular grounds.

Drinks & Open Garden

Open GardenA fundraising event for BYHP was held in a plant person’s paradise on 11th June, 2008 between 3 - 8pm.  Hillgrounds, in Evenley is a three acre garden full of rare plants and interesting features including a rose pergola,  yew hedges, shrubs and borders and a fruit and vegetable garden.

Over 100 visitors enjoyed the surroundings on a pleasant summer's day, with afternoon teas served by members of the village community.

At 6pm the Young People from BYHP served topped blinis which  they had prepared, along with drinks. Guests were entertained by the singing group 'Cloud Nine'.

The Open Garden was a great success and raised £910 for BYHP.

Blenheim Triathlon

BYHP Triathlon teamThe Blenheim Palace Triathlon took place on 6th and 7th June 2008, and this year BYHP had a vastly expanded entry of 37 fantastic runners.  For many of them, it was the first time that they had done a triathlon, either individually or as part of a team.

Some had trained with a local triathlon team, but the level and final time seemed fairly irrelevant compared with the sense of being in a team and enjoyment for everybody who took part, in the most beautiful of surroundings, while raising money for BYHP.

A huge thank you from us all goes to everyone who took part, to all those who supported us on the day and to all those who sponsored our runners.  We are hoping to further expand our entry next year, so please get in touch if you feel that you might be interested!

Fashion Show

Fashion ShowThe sun shone on an upbeat Fashion Show in the idyllic surroundings of Crockwell Farm, Eydon on 8th May 2008.

A range of vibrant, fun summer clothes and accessories were modeled, followed by a delicious lunch for 150 guests and shopping.

Eight lovely models all gave their time generously and strutted the catwalk.

Make up and hairstyling were provided by Jade of Towcester and Diane of Bicester (www.dihair.co.uk)

I Love Designs and Ab Fab jewellery, Astiga shoes, Moo’s Hats, Indigo Boo, Karen Cole and The Powder Room clothing and Samantha Sage swimwear.

BYHP Ball

BYHP BallA fabulous Spring Ball was held at Broughton Castle on Saturday 19th April 2008 by kind permission of Lord and Lady Saye & Sele to raise awareness and much needed funds for local charity BYHP which works across Oxfordshire to support Young People in housing need.

Four hundred guests arrived to a champagne reception followed by a delicious dinner and dancing to Mauro Montushchi’s Orchestra and discothèque by Darrell Locke.

The highlight of the evening was a fundraising auction where auctioneers Simon Harris of Berry Morris and Mark Osborne of J. M. Osborne ably coaxed partygoers to dig deep into their pockets. Some fantastic auction prizes were very generously donated and a staggering £26,000 was raised by the auction. Together with donations and sponsorship both business and private the evening raised a total of £40,000.

This huge success for a local charitable event must be attributed to the fact that BYHP is seen as an exceptionally worthwhile charity, working for the good of the local community and providing a lifeline for many Young People in Oxfordshire.

Town Mayor's presentation

John Donaldson & Laura YatesImmediate past Town Mayor, Councillor John Donaldson, made a surprise donation to BYHP in September 2007.

Although John’s term of office as Town Mayor ended in May, he subsequently discovered that fundraising for his Town Mayor’s Charity Fund had been more successful than anticipated enabling him to make a £1,000 donation to BYHP.

Tennis Tournament

Tudor Hall School played host in September 2007 to a tennis tournament in aid of BYHP – Banbury Young Homelessness Project.

Tea and cakes, wine and canapes provided entirely by volunteers all made for a quintessentially English day and a chance to enjoy the last of the summer sunshine in the lovely walled garden tennis courts.

The nail biting final playoff was won by Bill Adams and Cindy Carslake. A silent auction, raffle and donations by some very generous supporters meant that over £2,500 was raised for BYHP.

BYHP is indebted to Simon Bradshaw for his enormous support and brilliant organisational skills in putting together such an enjoyable and successful event, to all our sponsors and players and of course to Tudor Hall School for kindly allowing us to invade their lovely school and grounds.
