Domestic Abuse
Domestic Abuse is an increasing issue with young people, both male and female. The Government defines domestic violence as "Any incident of threatening behavior, violence or abuse (psychological, physical, sexual, financial or emotional) between adults who are or have been intimate partners or family members, regardless of gender or sexuality."
Here at BYHP we have a domestic abuse support worker who can work with young people facing this issue. Sessions can be offered in a variety of settings and will be tailored to the individual’s needs; this could be on a one to one basis or in a group. Both self and agency referrals can be made to Carla Preen on 01295 259442.
Domestic abuse may consume a victim’s whole life resulting in the breakdown of other relationships, loss of jobs, housing, and independence. Self-esteem and confidence may also be damaged during this time so therefore we support individuals to increase this and move forward with their lives.
Sometimes it is hard for individuals to recognise if Domestic Abuse is happening to them. If you feel you may be being affected, we suggest you take a look at www.reducingtherisk.org.uk to help establish whether you are experiencing Domestic Abuse.
