Oxfordshire Supported Lodgings

‘improving the outcomes of young people’

Crash Pad Service

General Information

Oxfordshire Emergency Access Supported Lodgings known as Crash Pad aims to respond to a crisis in the home life of a Young Person (aged between 16-25) by housing them for a short time (between one night and six weeks) in the home of an approved host, while efforts are made to resolve the crisis in a way which enables them safely to resume living with their family/carers or move on to more suitable accommodation.

Crash Pad provides
  • a room in an approved hosts home.

  • safe, supportive accommodation for up to six weeks.

  • an opportunity to mediate between Young People and family/carers.

  • a holistic support package for the Young Person which includes:

    • a thorough risk, skills and needs assessment.
    • a support plan that compliments the outcome of the assessment.
    • clear actions to engage appropriate services.
    • a plan for “move on”.
Crash Pad can't provide
  • longer-term accommodation, (although Crash pad will be an integral part of Supported Lodgings that does address this need).

  • accept self-referrals from young people.

  • accept referrals for Young People who at the time of referral are, or appear to be, under the influence of alcohol, drugs or solvents; are displaying, or known to have displayed, violent behavior or committed serious violent or sexual crime, have a physical or mental health problem which requires specific attention or care.

  • provide a postal address for a young person.

Added benefits
  • each agency can complete the whole process.

  • every Young Person gets access to the full set of services.

  • contact with non partner agencies (e.g. Benefits) is supported.

  • no young person should have a housing debt as a result of using the Crash Pad scheme.

What is the referral process?

Referrals come from Children, Young People and Families (formerly Social Services) BYHP and Housing Services at the council relevant to the Young Person being referred. A referral form is completed and sent to the Oxfordshire Supported Lodgings Team.
